Cab/Uber/Lyft:
It is generally quite easy to get a cab or Uber/Lyft, although during busy times, holidays, or weather events you might have to wait longer than you are used to for a ride. You also will want to make sure you manually add your address, as sometimes the maps features can’t pinpoint your exact location, and many street names are similar in the neighborhoods. If you are arriving by plane, you can also get a ride from the airport directly to your rental.
Public Transport:
Tahoe has an incredible FREE bus system that connects North Lake Tahoe and the West Shore to Truckee, Tahoe City, and various beaches and ski resorts. This is a great resource to help cut down on extra traffic in our small towns, and conserve environmental resources by taking a shared ride. The bus runs on a regularly scheduled timetable, which you can access via the TART app “Transit,” or on Google Maps just chose the public transit option. Learn more about routes and times at the TART website.
Car Rental:
If you are flying into Reno, Sacramento, or Truckee, you can also rent a car at the airport. There are plenty of rental agencies at each airport, although your options at Truckee are more limited. If you are renting a car in the winter, It’s a good idea to pick something with 4-wheel drive and make sure the tires are made for snow, as many neighborhoods do not have regular plow service and roads can be icy and snowy.
